Boot drive: firefighters fight for Riverwalk victim

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WFXG)- A fundraiser was held Saturday in honor
of Wesley Spires. Local firefighters held a boot drive to honor their fellow
volunteer firefighter who remains in critical condition after he was beaten by
what investigators said was a bat along the Augusta Riverwalk on May 3rd.

"He deserves much better than what
happened," said Samantha Lewis  

Lewis is a family friend of Spires who
made it a point to come out and donate.

Donations needed after fire destroys apartment building

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WFXG)- Nine residents of a North Augusta apartment complex lost everything Wednesday evening after what apartment officials said was caused by a grease fire on the first level of the building.

"They said that the grease was so hot that it just went up in a matter of minutes," said Property Manager Mary Montgomery.

Everyone made it safe out of the building safely, except for one.

Road closures announced for Thunder Over Augusta

County wishes to inform the driving public of two temporary road closures in
the Evans Towne Center for this year's Thunder Over Augusta Event.

Fox Creek principal on administrative leave

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WFXG)- Fox Creek's principal Dr. Tim Murph is currently on administrative leave. In a press release sent by Fox Creek High School Board Greg Hurt, it said the Board of trustees of Fox Creek High School voted to place Dr. Murph on leave with full pay and benefits effective immediately until rescinded by the Board of Trustees.

The school is not releasing any details on why Dr. Murph was put on leave. Hurt said the matter  is a confidential personnel matter that is being handled by the Board's attorneys.

Thief steals cell phones from Wal-Mart

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WFXG)- North Augusta Public Safety Officers are looking for a man that took cell phones from Wal-Mart.

Investigators say the suspect, seen in surveillance pictures, went in to the Wal-Mart on Knox Avenue in North Augusta on April 23 at 3:25 in the morning, broke the glass in a case in the electronics department and took 13 cell phones valued around $8,000.00.

"Cops and Calabash" fundraiser tonight and tomorrow

Aiken County, SC (WFXG)- The Aiken County Sheriff's Office along with Aiken Department of Public Safety,
South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, WSI-SRS and the South Carolina
Department of Corrections will be partnering with Fatz Café tonight and tomorrow for their "Cops and Calabash" fundraiser.

Stop by Fatz Cafe between 4:00 and 9:00 Tuesday and Wednesday. Cops and Calabash is a Law
Enforcement Torch Run/Special Olympics fund raising event.

Suspect identified in Riverwalk beating incident

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG)- A suspect has been named in the brutal beating of two people on Augusta's Riverwalk, last week.

Richmond County Investigators have identified Kevin D. Richardson as one of two suspects who may be connected to the May 3 beating and robbery of Wesley Spires and Ashley Solesbee.

The Sheriff's Office needs the public's help finding Richardson. Anyone with information can call the Sheriff's Office at 706-821-1080.  Callers may remain anonymous.
